If you wish to get the taste of village life and get into interesting conversations with the friendly villagers around, you can consider taking a 10mins stroll to the beach. You may also find it a good idea to hop onto one of the bicycles available at the villa to ride upto the beach. While you enjoy your sail through the thick plantation on the sides of the canal, we assure you will not feel lonely. Here you will be accompanied by distant music of the chirping of native birds. You may even get lucky to encounter few, take some selfies and befriend them :). As soon as you hit the beach you will find yourself under the moody clouds or a vast sunny canopy of sky. Do not forget to watch-out that golden white sand shining in your feet. If it is evening time, when you take a stroll to get yourself lost into the vastness of sea; watching kids play happily in water, you will also get to watch the sun take a plunge into the sea and alas, what a perfect scene to end your evening with!

Well, your rendezvous with nature does not end here. We ensure you carry a part of it all the time while you stay with us. You can rejuvenate by simply taking a dip in the natural granite cladded pool or just take a refreshing shower in the open-to-sky bathrooms. For your complete indulgence in traditional lifestyle, we can also arrange for an Ayurvedic spa or a yoga session by professionals on request.

When we talk about nature, we would also like to introduce other hosts of this villa to you. Don't be surprised if you find some kingfishers, mynahs, parrots, fruits bats and pigeons flying around or playing in the verandah outside your room. These are just a few of them nesting amongst numerous Jackfruit trees, Mango trees and Cherry or Indian coffee plants. The unique ecosystem of this place inhabits a variety of species of birds and wildlife and an endemic array of flora and fauna.

In most parts of the world, local cuisine is one way to experience the essence of the place. Ethnic Kerala traditions are also closely connected with food. We believe no vacation here will be complete without getting a chance to serve you with our seafood delicacies prepared and served by our authentic chefs at the restaurant.

Our heritage villa is lived over by three generations of the family, so while we ensure high-class hospitality with well-trained staff, you will always experience the home-like warmth during your entire stay. We prefer to keep it intimate and involving and host happy guests!

EXPLORE OUR LEGACY

Our History

  • The Puthenpurakal house

This was the time when Mr. Joseph was serving in Air force, and posted in North India. As he was nearing his retirement, he started thinking about spending his post retirement life in his own soil, which was Pollathai. This thought laid the foundation of the villa back in 1939.

The site was picked where there was an existing 'Nalukettu; a traditional, open-courtyard Kerala style house', lived by generations. The new plan was implemented in Natural stone masonry with limestone and skilled craftsmen carved the woodwork of the villa. It took 3 full years for complete implementation.

  • The journey of 3 generations

The villa saw its first generation as 'Joseph & Prastheena with three daughters and son Samson'. He spent his childhood here with the family.Young Samson, seeking higher education and brighter career opportunities, set off to Middle East. In due course, both the family and the villa welcomed Geetha, as his wife and later the two sons Varun and Rahul. Both kids used to be on and off their native, often visiting grandparents for their long vacations.

Later the stay duration became longer, once Varun took up his higher education in Kochi. This grew his fondness and attachment even more for his ancestral property and childhood memories. Varun and Rahul mark the 3rd generation of the family.

  • Birth of Flamingo Boutique hotel

The history repeated itself and when the time of retirement was nearing for Mr. Samson, he had the house calling him back. Yet again, the family decided 'to relocate to Pollathai, Mararikulam', to their family home in 2010. On returning back they felt the need to renovate the property.

This was the turning point when the family collectively devised the idea to open their family home to outside world. An idea that can help them retain the property with its original charm and is self-sustainable. The aimed to have a heritage property where people can stay and enjoy the traditional lifestyle and get a chance to taste the richness of its history, and ‘Flamingo Boutique hotel’ was born!

  • Ready to welcome guests

The restoration of the old property into a heritage boutique villa was done with addition of a swimming pool and modification of bathrooms into open-to-sky ones. All the important features like the flooring, traditional pillars, roof and overall form were restored. After a year’s hard work, the Villa opened its doors for its first guests in 2013.
